My roommate and I bought a pool last summer. It's just a small intex pool since we're renting a house and everything went smoothly last summer. However, this summer it's been a nightmare. I'm trying to figure out what they are and how to get rid of them because frankly I'm afraid to get in the pool, but we can't seem to figure it out. The best part is neither can our local pool stores. Any help?

Might help if you post a picture. You can either use Flicker, Picassa, etc. or you can email them to poolforum@gmail.com and reference the url of this thread.

Welcome to the Pool Forum!

I'm with you .............. I wouldn't want to get in a pool filled with black leach like bugs!!:eek:

(I know you are shocked to hear this, right Ben? ;))

Sounds like spring tails.

Spring tails originate outside your pool -- you have to deal with them there, before they enter the pool. Here's a fairly authoritative guide: http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn74136.html

And general info from Wikipedia:

And, a thread from last year:

And, some pictures from Google Image Search (safe search ON, but still GROSS close ups of *bugs*)
