Pump would just hum loudly without pumping water.

Took off the back cover the rotor was not turning but was free.

So I looked at these forums and got a new capacitor.

With the new capacitor the unit turned on but seemed weak (much quieter hum). The rotor spins and pumps water, but at a weak pressure, then the pump shuts off after 20 seconds.

What do you guys think I should do next.

I'm sorry I can't really help -- of all the pumps I've repaired in 25+ years, I've had to get into deal with capacitors and internal switches only twice! There are a few guys here who've done some of that, but they're not real active right now.

You might try posting at poolspaforum.com -- they have a lot of pool industry members there. Just watch out for their advice on pool chemistry -- most of them hang pretty close to the pool chemical manufacturer's version of things.

However, one member at poolspaforum.com is on our support team -- username Waterbear. His advice you can trust.

The bearings are probably bad causing the motor to overload and trip the thermal limiter switch. Bearings can be replaced if you have a puller or you can replace the whole motor.
