If you just filled your pool you'll want to get the CYA levels up. Do you have a Taylor kit? Check out this thread (http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?14994) that has detailed information on the kits.

Check out Ben's Best Guess Chlorine chart (http://poolsolutions.com/gd/best-guess-swimming-pool-chlorine-chart.html), this will give you an idea about why you need CYA and where you should have it. The easiest way to add it would be to make a trip to the pool store and buy some, normally pool stores call it stabilizer. I bought some when I refilled mine and it was around $36 a gallon if I remember correctly. That was the liquid version, though and that's all I've ever used.
Be sure to stick with either bleach or liquid chlorine, as using any stabilized chlorine will just raise your CYA levels and require you to keep your CL higher to be effective.

went to the pool store and look for stabilizer, ask them if they have any in liquid version, but no. just had stabilizer balancer, and it say i need 300g for 10000L i think i have about 25000L in by pool should i start with about 600g and see what the test CYA levels r tomorrow. the guy at the store say put the stabilizer in to a sock into the skimmer, is this how i do it? or do i have to get the liquid version? thx for your help

Both will work, it'll just take longer to dissolve. Like I said I've only used the liquid but I've read on here that's definitely how to use the powdered form. I would really suggest picking up a Taylor test kit, either the K2006 or K2006-C. I got mine from Amazon thru one of the mods links but I don't see the K2006 on Amazon right now, only the K2006-C. Here's the link to the K2006-C (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002IXIJ0/poolbooks). This kit will allow you to test higher CL levels and also test your CYA levels.

If you are using the dry CYA, you will need to wait a week after putting it in for it to show up on your test. Best that you put 75% of what you think you need, then a week later test, then adjust.
Once you have the sock in the skimmer, chlorinate as if you are already at your target CYA level.
FAS-DPD test kit (such as the K-2006) is a must for this method of pool care.

If your Alkalinity is 330 you wanna get that down, A LOT. You want it to be around 80-120. When are you expecting the K2006? If you're using strips to get your readings I'd wait till you get the K2006 and retest everything as the Taylor kit is much more accurate than strips. But if it is indeed that high you'll want to get some muriatic acid to lower it, this will take some time though because the acid will also lower you pH. So you'll have to add acid, aerate to raise pH, add more acid, etc. Until both your pH and TA are in range.

This is exactly what I had to do. My total alkalinity out of the garden hose is about 300. It took me 8 days and about 5 gallons of muriatic acid, but I got it to 100, and now all is good. :)

Put in another pint and start aerating.

I did, would like to know how long should I aerat for, do I let it go all night?

Actually, so long as you are not using calcium hypochlorite to chlorinate, it's not necessary -- for you, in your pool situation -- to specifically work on lowering the alkalinity. Instead, just use muriatic acid to keep the pH in the 7.0 - 7.4 range. If you do so, the alkalinity will drift down over time, all by itself UNLESS you cover it with a gas tight membrane, like a solar cover.
The high alkalinity is only a problem for you if you add some sort of calcium OR raise the pH suddenly. Do NOT use baking soda (Alkalinity Increaser), soda ash (pH UP) or calcium chloride (Calcium UP) in your pool. If you happen to overdose with muriatic acid, let some kids splash around . . . and the pH will rise, along with the drop in alkalinity. If for some reason you do need to raise the pH use ONLY borax.

i do have a solar cover, but it comes off in the day time. just go on at night. should i leave it off?

Again, the risk to you, from the high ALK, is precipitating a calcium cloud. You do NOT want it to go higher. But if you keep the pH down, and leave the pool uncovered at least some of the time, the ALK will gradually go done.
So, leaving it on at night, and off during the day, should be fine.

I have an 11k gallon pool, more than your 7k. I put a pvc pipe w/a 45 deg elbow in the filter discharge back into the pool so it would shoot an arc of water back into the pool. If I ran it all night (2 hp pump) my pH would go from 7.2 to 7.8 overnight. Just fyi to help you along. I checked it every morning and evening for 8 days. See this thread: http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?19696-If-this-was-your-fill-water-what-would-you-do&highlight=
Charting the progress REALLY helped me see what I was doing.

Thanks, Bosch232, for sharing that with Gibby. That is what makes the Pool Forum so great. Lots of people willing to share what they have learned in order to help others. Thanks again!

Considering all the help I've gotten here myself, it's the least I could to.
