I recently had the liner replaced in my 19,000 gal inground pool. The old one had lasted 10 yrs. For the last 9 yrs, I only used Clorox bleach for my chlorine. The contractor said that the liner would last longer if I added chemicals through the skimmer or a chlorinator instead of in the pool. Also, I'm thinking of adding a chlorinator which would hold 3 inch trichlor tablets so that I could be gone longer in the summer & still maintain the chlorine. I would still use mostly bleach. Am i getting good advice? Would appreciate your opinion.

You can either pour bleach into the skimmer (which is what I do) or in front of a return jet. I'm not sure how one method over the other would affect liner life.

As far as getting a chlorinator and using trichlor tabs when you are away, that is fine. But, just remember that trichlor will raise your CYA level. Also, it is very acidic and will drive your pH down so before you use them, you should probably push your pH up to 7.8 or 7.9 to give it some wiggle room to drop without falling below 7.0.
