When I turn the valve to backwash water pumps out the waste discharge. Is this normal I didn't think it should do this until I turn the valve to rinse? Thanks for any help.

a) It's normal and the proper function. Backwash pushes through the filter backwards and out the waste port to clear all the accumulated dirt out of the filter.
b) You ARE supposed to turn the valve to rinse first for a few seconds. Also after backwashing before turning it back to filter.

Jbart, you have a second thread with this same question that I just replied to that I am going to delete. Please don't double post questions. The forum is already pretty big without duplicates. ;) I am sure you did so because you didn't see your post when you posted it. That is because posts go into a moderation queue first to be approved by a moderator before they show up on the forum. We try and get to them as quickly as we can, however!
