Pristine Blue stained my pool and I want to switch to BBB /Chlorine

I bought a new home over the winter and just opened the pool a couple weeks ago to find the once white steps are now yellow due to copper staining. I also discovered that the previous owners used Pristine Blue! Not owning a pool in several years, I was not familiar with Pristine Blue, so after the pool was opened the pool company recommended Pristine Blue, which I bought and used (exactly as they had written down for me) now for a couple weeks. Yesterday, my son was swimming and his white shirt started turning green/yellow in spots. Anyway, between the yellow steps and stained shirt, I just want to switch from this Pristine Blue to BBB or Chlorine system. I have been reading about how to do it, I am still a little unsure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I probably should start by make sure you understand that switching to chlorine won't fix any of the stains you have now . . . and if you don't make the switch CAREFULLY, you could end up with new stains. Also, copper does not (AFAIK) cause yellow stains; I don't know what would explain those. More commonly yellow/orange stains are caused by iron, not copper. Iron usually enters pools from (a) the fill water, OR, (b) something rusting [OLD pools], OR (c) iron contaminated salt used with an SWCG system.

So . . . you probably need to begin by finding out what is REALLY going on with your pool.

1. Get some polyquat, and use it. Polyquat is compatible with both copper and chlorine, and can keep your pool from becoming a swamp, will you investigate and make changes. http://www.poolsolutions.com/gd/polyquat.html

2. Get a K2006 testkit, and test your water. Link below in my signature block.

3. Do bucket tests on BOTH your fill water AND your POOL water.
