The drain plug on my Hayward pump was over tightened and cracked the housing through the treads approx. 1 cm.

The pump is approx. 2-3 yrs old. Is there a product available to repair/re-bond the crack?

Thx

Yes There is a great product for something like that. It is call Marine Tex. It comes in gray or white. I would make sure the site is very dry before applying it, and apply it inside the housing and outside the housing. It is very strong and impervious to water. You can buy it from any marine supply place, cheapest is probably www.defender.com. Or check ebay

Forgot something: Use Teflon tape when re-installing the drain plug. Also it won't look pretty, but spread the Marine Tex out at least half an inch from each side of the crack. Do you want it pretty or functional? Last time I bought pump housing it was going for over $200 list.

. . . If you try to repair your housing, I'd be interested to here what the results are.

I applied Marine Tex to the outside of the pump and I used Teflon tape and plumbing pipe joint compound on the threads before I applied the drain plug and far no leaks. Marine Tex worked well! Thanks again for the suggestion.
