I have a Swim Pure Water system and it is giving me very low salt readings. (It started out at 3100 and now is at 1200) As a result, I added way too much salt. I had the water tested at Pinch A Penny and it was 5000 ppm. We have been diluting the pool to reduce the salinity. Now it has stopped making chlorine and the check cell and low salt LED's are on. When I was starting up the pool a few weeks ago, I noticed that the gray wire to the flow switch had been cut, so I had to repair that with waterproof connectors. My question is: It seems obvious to me that the cell has failed, Pinch a Penny recommends bringing the cell and the box and the flow switch in so they can check them. I hate to spend $529 on a new cell if it's not the cell!! Does anyone have any other suggestions? I appreciate any advice. Thank you!!

Does your swcg's manual have a recommendation for a cell cleaning procedure? I think most cells need to be occasionally physically cleaned with something that won't scratch the cell and acid washed to remove scaling. Scaling on the inside of the cell can lead to it reporting lower salt content than is actually there.
On the other hand, so can a cell that's at the end of its' lifespan.
What are the rest of your test numbers?

Thanks for the quick reply, but we took the whole system to Pinch A Penny and they tested the cell and it "FAILED"!! So it was a bad cell!! They also tested the control box and everything was fine. We had the water tested and everything came back good except the salt is still way too high!! 4400 ppm, so now we drain and fill, drain and fill!!
