I have used bleach since I found this forum a few years ago and it works great! I just got a new liner, the old one was faded really bad. My family insists that it faded due to my using bleach. I always poured the bleach thru the skimmer. Am I safe in continuing to use the bleach and is pouring it thru the skimmer okay? should I dilute it first? I just don't want to ruin my new liner! please adise. Thanks!

Our pool still has the original liner that was installed in 2004 and has also gradually faded below the water line. Although due to the pattern it's only really apparent when the water level is below normal. The only thing I can think of that would cause this is the chlorine used to sanitize the pool. I'm thinking that although good liners may be chlorine resitant, over time they will fade (this is just my guess).
I'm also interested in what others with more experience have to say about this.

There's no difference between bleach (liquid chlorine) and any other type of chlorine in the pool water. It may contribute to fading the liner but not any more so than the same chlorine level (and CYA level) from any other chlorine source.
I don't see any problem with dosing bleach in the skimmer as long as there has been no dichlor or trichlor in the skimmer or filter or in a feeder. In terms of liner fading; if the water is still when bleach is added, there may be somewhat more fading below the location where bleach is added as bleach is heavier than water. By the same logic, there may be more fading where the water returns to the pool if you dose through the skimmer. Did you notice a pattern in the liner fading?
