What is the opinion on the circular heating disk that are used to warm the pool.. How much change in the temperature can be expected? Is it worth using them to extend our pool use in the south?

You might want to check out this link and see if it resembles the ones you're talking about http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/archive/index.php/t-16565.html? although you'll probably have to log out and then copy/paste this into your browser to follow it. Until Ben upgrades your registration I don't think you can follow a link from this forum while logged in.
