I have a sta-rite pump/motor that is only 3 years old and is really loud. Separated the pump to see if there was anything inside the impeller and it looks ok. Sound seems to be coming from the 1 1/2 hp motor. Any ideas?
Here is a similar model, sound file of bad motor attached:

If it is a harsh, whining sound, then it's probably the bearings that have rusted. When mine rusted, it sounded like a jet engine was in the back yard. If you've had a leak that went for any amount of time ignored, or if your shaft seals are going bad, then that's probably the problem.

Hopefully one of the equipment guys will be around soon that can give you some solid advice, although it may take awhile since forum traffic has slowed way down-most folks around here have closed their pools, and then they don't log in as often as they do during swim season...

In the meantime while you're waiting for responses, you can log out, go to the main forum page, then look for any post made by me, Watermom, or Pooldoc. Use the google search feature linked in our sigs, and it will allow you to search the whole forum and archives for similar posts.
