View Full Version : Water leaking from filter out valve

I put my filter on "circulate" since I just added a double dose of Polyquat 60 for my winter prep. I have never really used anything on the filter besides filter, backwash, and waste. On backwash and waste I do get a pretty slow but stready stream of water out the out valve but I just assumed it was normal. Today, when I put it on circulate I got a slow steady stream of water which can't be normal. Out of curiosity I turned it to Winter just to see if I would get a slow steady stream of water but instead I got a fast large stream of water. Closed gives me slow steady stream. When it's on filter however - no leak whatsoever. Is something wrong with my filter? It's brand new (first season). Is this something I'll need to address before closing the pool? I was planning on removing the multiport valve and storing it inside for the winter, then put a tarp over my filter with the bottom drain open for the winter. Just wondering if I have something wrong and if so do I need to address it before I close or can I deal with it next year?

I'm wondering if the cover on your multiport was put on backwards. On backwash and waste you should get a pretty fast stream of water, and on circulate and filter you shouldn't get anything at all. One of the equipment guys should check in soon with better advice, but it definitely sounds like something's not quite right to me.

Meaning like the top half of the multiport? I actually got it from IntheSwim and it came as one piece so I'm not the one that put it together....

Can I get some sort of update on this?

I think it's one of two things:
1) Something has failed in the valve, like one of the walls, or, as always, the spider gasket.
2) It's assembled incorrectly.

In waste or backwash mode, the flow out to your waste outlet should be as strong and powerful as your normal filter or recirculate pressure to your return. When it's in filter or recirculate there should be no water through the sight glass.
