Questions on CYA and Pumping

Hi this is my first real post so bear with me, I'm a real noob.

Just installed this pool a couple of months ago and have been doing fairly well with chemistry. Plan to start using the BBB method.

As to the tests above, they were done using the K2006 test kit. The CYA seems to be high to me but due to my inexperience i need to ask here. That 80 could be a little low because of poor eyesight but i think it's right.
Tests have been really stable over the past month and few chemicals have been required, just minor adjustments.
CYA was at 100 but a recent 2" rain seems to have lowered that.
Please look at my figures and tell me how they are, and if needed what changes need to be made.

My other question is that my "Pool Guy" says that i need to be running my filter continuously, 24x7. Is this true? seems like a lot. if not, how do i know how long to run and when?

Thank you for this resource! I am sure there are a lot of us out here that don't have a clue and the information has saved me, and I'm sure others, a ton of worry and miss-information in this journey to knowledge.

Your numbers look pretty good except that with a CYA of 80, you need to be keeping your chlorine between 5-10 all the time. How did your CYA get to that level? What kind of granular chlorine are you using?

You are right that running the pump 24/7 is excessive unless you are fighting something in your water. Generally, 8-10 hours per day should be fine.

OK, seems that I need to bring my Chlorine level up a little.
Can that high CYA cause me problems?
Do i need to reduce that or will it reduce naturally?
I believe it came from a granular conditioner that my Pool Guy asked me to use.(hey! It was free. what could be wrong with that!?)

No residential pool needs 24 hrs of run time unless you have a lot of stuff dropping into the pool. I run mine only about 4 hours per day (~1/2 turn per day) and half of that is on low speed. Most pools only need 1 turnover a day and many, like mine, can get away with much less.

But to know for sure how much is right for you, requires a little trial and error. But given the size of pool and pump, your turnover rates is probably on the order of 4 hours so I would try 4 hours and see how it goes. Just make sure you are getting enough chlorine in the pool during those 4 hours.

Thanks mas985's. I thought 24/7 was a little much. I do have a timer in place so I guess i will start experimenting with that. Probably go a little long to start.
