Well, we live directly in the storms path so now I guess we'll see how well the pool is constructed! This ought to be a fun ride. ;)

Good luck! You don't have any glass tables near the pool do you?

Good luck! You don't have any glass tables near the pool do you?Heck no! I decided that glass and pools don't go together so there is nothing glass even remotely close to the pool. Only thing I'm worried about that I can somewhat control is the amount of water in the pool. I'll have to check it periodically and use the waste setting to remove the excess water. Other than that, it's all out of my hands.

Are you going to shut off / electrically isolate the pump? I don't think they're designed to work submerged.

Yes, I will be turning off power to it and only applying if I need to drain. And that will only happen as long as the pump is not under water. I appreciate all the questions/comments. Keeps me on my toes!

Yep, was thinking about you just now as I was watching the weather.....I would shock it really well Tuesday night before you go to bed, because who knows what Wed. morning will bring?
I'll be keeping close tabs on it too, since it's still supposed to be tropical storm status by the time it gets to me! :(

Hopefully Isaac will play nice! We are supposed to be on the dry side here, which is a shame, really could use the rain :(

LOL! That's for sure! There's never any telling what's gonna happen with these things. Every time you turn around, the forecast changes. Either way, there's no stopping Mother Nature so whatever happens, it's all out of my hands with the storm.
I thought about the shock. I'm gonna give it a real good dose of bleach tomorrow evening and roll with it from there.
If anybody else has any other suggestions, keep'em coming! You never know when something great might pop out!
Also, I'd like to thank everyone that has chimed in on this. It's really great to see the thought that people put into helping others.

If you have a solar cover on the pool, you might want to remove it as it is likely to get torn up. We had a pretty good storm this summer (the derecho that affected much of the eastern U.S. and took our power out for a full week) and during that storm, my solar cover was blown off the pool and ripped some.

No cover so that's a plus, I guess. It has picked up quite a bit in the last hour or so. No rain to speak of but the wind is blowing pretty good. Nothing like Gustav though. That one was a bear!

Getting hammered pretty good now. Wind gusts have to be in the upper 60's or better. Rain falling at a pretty fast rate now also. Funny thing is that everything comes in spurts. It blows and rains real hard for 15-20 minutes and stops for maybe 5-10 and starts all over again.
Janet, y'all getting anything yet? I think it's nearly stalled where it is so it's going to be down here with us for a while still.

Hang in there!! It's not supposed to be here until late tonight into tomorrow, but the majority of it is supposed to get us tomorrow during the day. Just moving my pool furniture, toys, etc out of the way today while it's still nice and sunny :)

Well, wind is picking up, although it's not supposed to be here for another few hours. Pool is shocked, patio furniture and toys stowed away--now we'll just see how it goes from here. JWhouse, check in when you can....I see it's pretty bad down there.....

Are you guys okay? Let us know (when your power comes back on, that is)

Well, power back on, luckily, and everyone made it through the storm unscathed. At least this was the case in my house. There are many others that weren't as fortunate. I have some pictures of some of the high water. I'll put them up on the web and add a link in this thread when they are up. In some places the water was well over the running boards of our 4x4 pickup and it has a small lift on it. The water was somewhere around 3-3.5 feet deep in some areas. CRAZY.
Wind's weren't completely off the charts. It got bad for a little while but it was nothing like Gustav. We didn't lose a single tree.
Pool fared pretty well also. There is a LOT of leaf debris in it and 1 small branch around half an inch in diameter in it. I have removed the branch and about 75 percent of the debris. Will attempt to vacuum this afternoon to get the rest of it out.
Overall, not bad except for the amount of water it dropped. Janet, how are y'all? It appeared on radar that Shreveport was to the west of the center of circulation. Probably very little rainfall but some wind. Let me know how you are.

Thanks BigDave! I can tell you one thing, the water is COLD!!! :)

yup, water is pretty cold here, too!! Our school board jumped the gun on Wednesday and canceled school for Thurs and Fri....the winds got pretty strong at times, but it was in spurts, just like jwhouse described. Lost 3 shingles off the house, but we didn't even get 2" of rain.....it's pretty sad, but my koi pond water level was low, so I left it alone, figuring Isaac would fill it for me, and I actually had to top it off from the hose today!! What rain we got was in the form of blowing mist more than anything. My youngest and her friends down the street spent the day playing in it :) We were very, very lucky though, compared to the folks on the Eastern side of the storm. Unfortunately, there was an immense amount of damage from the tornadoes that spawned off as Isaac fell apart. I'm afraid they're in for a whole lot of work to reconstruct.....

Storm finally made it up here. Steady soaking rain all day yesterday, with light to moderate winds. Second pass was a different story though. After 6pm, rain started again and came down in buckets. Pool was about 4" low until that came through, is now full. Still going to empty it over the next few days. I've been waiting for the chl to drop before using the water on our parched yard......this should have dropped it enough.

Shouldn't take long for the chlorine to drop--for some reason, hurricane-driven rainstorms seem to carry a good bit of "goo" with them, which is why I usually shock it again after one has come through. And 4" of it should do the trick :)

Totally unexpected but we were lucky enough to get a soaking rainstorm that isaac's tail spun off and got 4" of rain on Friday. Weird but but the rain was very welcomed!! And I'm glad to hear you all made it ok!
