I have a hazy water problem in my 18 foot above ground pool, my PH alk and chloring are right on ATM... I used a liquid clarifier that I baught at the local pool store with no success...

I have alot of particals in my water due to a problem with my solar blanket, here is what happened...

I used to leave my solar blanket on the pool for a few days before I would take it off for my swim, there is allways water on the blanket comming from rain and pool water from previous instalation, my pool is installed under ALOT of trees especially evergreens, so all the particals from the trees would fall on the blanket and be swashed into my pool when I would remove the blanket... honestly the water looked like oatmeal :(

I decided to not put the solar blanket anymore, but my water is still hazy even after a initial treatment of the clarifier (700ml for 7126 gallons) and at least 3 weeks of normal filtering before the treatment....

what can I do to get my water sparkling clean as it was when I filled it up the first time with my well water ??

Thanks :)

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

If you could procide us with a set of test results on your water, taken with a drop- based kit, it will help us help you better. Also, what kind of pool do you have, and how do you normally chlorinate?

My above ground 18 foot pool holds 7126 gallons my dip stick and phenol readings last night gave me between 100 and 120 for alcalinity and 7.5 for PH , I add one 3" tablet of stablised chlorine once a week and that seems to do the trick, I also add 60g of coper sulfate to the skimmer as I add the 3" puck ...

I am new to the owning of a pool just got it 1 month ago so I hope the readings I gave you were right...

The great difficulty here is that guess-strips are so unreliable, especially with respect to the stabilizer (CYA) reading that we can't help much, based on those readings. Cloudiness can be caused by a wide variety of chemical and physical issues.

Read the testkit info page linked in my signature, and see what may be available to you in Canada. Also, you need to read the Best Guess page, so you can understand why the CYA reading is so critical.

Complete the Pool Chart so we have some idea how you are operating:
