Hey -

I'm finishing the install of my pool and should be ready to open it in a day or so. I'm looking to get a few swims out of it before having to close it. I know it's late in the year, but so what :)

I have a SWCG and would like to go the BBB Method. If I understand correctly, I need the following:

Borax to raise pH,
muriatic acid to lower pH (I shouldn't need this if I add Borax slowly)
baking soda to raise TA
Test kit

I have an vinyl AGP, 15x30, sand filter. Furthermore, I think I need to put the salt in, let it "stabilize" and generate chlorine for a full day before doing anything else.

I don't have a test kit yet, so I think I read a post about a simple one I can pick up at Walmart while I order the preferred one.

This will probably sound silly, but since it's so close to closing time, would I need to even put anything in? I'm guessing the answer is yes, but I'm still new.

Any other tips?

Brad

It would be advisable for you to get some bleach & dichlor and bring up your FC and CYA to normal levels, then turn on the SWCG. As has been noted elsewhere here, SWCG's can't make enough chlorine fast enough to to bring a new pool up to algae prevention levels.

The HTH 6 way would do, until you get your K-2006.

If any of the mods here need to correct me or add more info....

If you get the HTH 6-Way kit, make sure to get the drops test and not the test strips.

Are you aware that having a SWCG on an AG pool usually voids the pool's warranty?

Warranty's are useless anyways, they fight tooth and nail. But this one does not void the warranty. The top plates and bottom are resin, along with most of the connectors...walls are 'coated' whatever :)
