My local pool store told me to add 2 quarts of muratic acid wait 1 hour add 10 lbs. of shock wait 4 hours. Move pump to recirculate add 4 lbs. of Phos Floc circulate 2 hours then turn pool off wait 1-3 days then vacuum to waste.Backwash/rinse then shock again to get rid of algae. Is this accurate & do I add the muratic to the skimmer or directly in the pool & keep the pump in the filter section. Thanks

I would run, not walk, away from whoever gave you that advice!

To kill algae, you just need to raise your chlorine levels to "shock" level, which is determined by your CYA. If you can get an accurate set of test results on your water, taken with a drop-based kit and not strips, and post them here, we can help you get it cleaned up.

We also need to know a little about your pool, like what you normally use for chlorination, and a list of what's been put into the pool (ingredients, not product names like "shock"). If you'll take a few seconds and fill out this chart with your pool info, that will help us help you, too.
