I'm searching for ideas and ways to keep the water temp in my above ground pool from getting too warm. I live in Arizona and with the hot weather (nights are staying above 90 degrees) the pool water is up to 96 degrees which is not all that refreshing.
Thx

I have the same problem here in Louisiana. If you hook up some sort of fountain to aerate the water at night, it can have SOME, but not a lot, of a cooling effect. When my water just gets too hot to swim, I run my pump at night instead of during the day, which seems to help a little, and while the kids are swimming I run the slide, which just tops the pool off with cold tap water.

In Arizona, the answer is different then in Louisiana. Scorpchic, I looked up your weather report (weather.gov) -- dewpoint temps have been 65 or below for you for at least the last week. That means evaporative cooling will work. One way, is to connect a fountain or something similar to your pool, to spray water in the air AT NIGHT. You want LARGE drops, so the droplets cool off, and fall back into the water.
In Louisana, dewpoints have been in the mid 70's, so evaporation won't help. You DO want small droplets, since the droplet have to be cooled by convection/conduction, rather than by evaporation. But, again, a night time spray would help.

Okay that is what I thought. My next question is - does anybody have any suggestions for what kind works with an Intex above ground pool? It is 16x48 and we currently have the original filter that it came with. We currently already run the filter at night starting around sunset and it runs for 6 hours.

Has anyone found a fountain or aerator that works for intex above ground pools?

You should be able to make one out of 1" PVC pipe, assuming that the original pump is the 637 1000 gph model.
If you have or can get an extra hose, a bicycle inner tube, 1" PVC pipe, a few fittings and hose clamps you can make one very easily.
1" PVC has an outer diameter very close to the inner diameter of the small Intex hoses. For good sealing between the hoses and the pipe, a short piece of inner tube is placed on the outside of the pipe and the hose slipped over that.
Think about it a bit, and I bet you can come up with a very good one. For your area, many small holes in the pipe will give you more of a mist.
