A quick question?? The temps here have been in the 100's for days... Do you need to use more algicides other than your maintenance dosage to prevent algae???
A newbie here and to the pool world.(first summer)
thanks

You don't need to use algaecides ever. Really. All you have to do to keep algae away is to maintain adequate chlorine levels based on your CYA levels.

Stay away from algaecides! They do more damage than they are worth!
The ONLY one we recommend is Polyquat (preferably 60%). It should say "poly [oxyethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene dichloride] 60%". No matter WHAT the label calls it, that's the stuff. You can add an ounce or two a week and that may help prevent algae, but not if you don't maintain your chlorine levels.

If you're using a good test kit (Taylor K2006) and keeping your FC levels appropriate (based on your CYA level using the best guess chlorine chart) you won't have any problems with algae regardless of temperature.
