This is probably a stupid question, but here goes.

We are thinking of putting a gunite pool with a spillover spa at our home. We live in an area that has significant freezing in the winter, so we would need to close the pool during winter. Can you cover and close the pool without closing the spa?

If you have ice and snowing weather that has a potential for power outages, then you should have a backup generator hooked to your pool power source. If you do not then I would winterize the pool and the spa. Put a portable spa up next to the house it will be more energy efficient and you will not have to worry about it freezing in a power outage (it has enough insulation to keep itself warm). If your concerned about the cost of a portable spa don't be they are cheaper than repairing the plumbing and replacing all of your equipment.
