What does the distilled water do in the testing? I am curious because I think I am gonna need this little info for awhile at least till I get my kit.

It allows you to dilute the pool water for testing without adding anything else. You use it when you need to measure chlorine levels that appear to be higher than your test kit measures. By diluting the pool water with the distilled 1:1, you can effectively double the range of the chlorine test.

This is just for the chlorine test?

That's the only use I know of it. But steam distilled water is cheap and easily available. If you have Ben's test kit, or the like, you won't need it.

Distilled = heat water into steam, move steam into another container and let it condense back to water. You will have pure water in the second container and anything else that was in the water when you started will remain in the first container.

I should add that the reason you use distilled water is that it is pure water so that when you dilute your pool sample, it will not have any chlorine (or other chimicals for that matter) in it to throw off the measurement.

Easy enough to just go out and buy some distilled water cause I'd have no clue how to catch it.

If you never saw a "still", check out the TV show MASH - they have one in the Swamp.
