I am planning on buying an oval pool 15 x 26 x 54 info-15' X 26' X 54" Quest Yardmore Space Saver Oval Pool

25 Gauge Mystri Gold Unibead Vinyl Liner
Hayward S180T Sand Filter System with a 1.5HP Powerflo Pump (sand not included)

I am however hearing stories about the buttress free not being a good choice.

Any thoughts?

I don't know about your buttress free question, but I just wanted to ask about your filter--a 1.5 HP pump seems awfully big for that filter. I think you'd do better to either downsize your pump (the other equipment folks will chime in here, I'm sure--they know much more about pump/filter matches than I) to a 1 HP, or upsize that filter. If you have too big a pump and too small a filter, the pump will just drive the sand and filtered debris right through the filter and back into your pool. MIght be okay for awhile, but when you have to clean up the first algae outbreak, you'll realize what a headache that's going to be...

Someone should be along shortly that can address your question, I just wanted to throw the pump/filter thing out there for you to consider....

I'm going to ask our resident pool installer Waste aka Ted to offer an opinion for you. Be patient ...... he's a busy guy this time of year ....

Welcome to The Forum!

Unfortunately, my experience with A/G pools doesn't include the non-buttressed type. I can offer my take on what I'd do to make one, or maybe make one less likely to fail (I'd have reinforcement all around the pool at the top and bottom and possibly the middle - I haven't seen a schematic for the pools so don't know if they have them).

I wish I could be more helpful however - please feel free to ask me (us) any pool questions you have, maybe I'll do better next time :)

As 1 last thing, please heed Aylad's advice!!
