So...
I got the new pool filled on Saturday. Started getting water in balance..taking some time, but I know it will. My main concern was a comment in the pool stores notes that I need to add 27 fl oz to lower my TA, which stands at 280. What concerned me was the next paragraph telling me I may need 24 qts of Muriatic to lower the TA into the proper range. I checked the pH, which I got into the 7.4 range. So...do I continue to slowly add Muriatic over time to lower the TA and then bring it back up with Borax? Kinda confusing...
Thanks!.

No! Please!
24 qts of Muriatic acid will very likely damage your pool.
Pool store computer dosing recommendations can be dangerous and this is a prime example.

Please see Using Muriatic Acid to Safely Lower Your Pool's pH (http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?13111) and Lowering Swimming Pool Alkalinity -- A Step by Step Guide (http://www.poolsolutions.com/gd/lowering-swimming-pool-alkalinity-step-by-step.html).

You may want to leave your TA high, if it doesn't irritate your swimmers, you don't have scaling issues, and your pH is relatively stable. Especially if your fill water has high TA.

Please run the TA test on your fill water and post the result.

That is high. Go ahead and read the links that Dave posted above and work on lowering your alk. If you have any questions, let us know.
