I have a 15k gal in-ground pool. It has a Kreepy-Krauly suction-side pool cleaner and a Sta-Rite PTM-135 cartridge filter (1-1/2” plumbing, 135 sq ft, 50 psi max pressure, 135 gpm max flow). The plumbing from the skimmer to the pump inlet is 2” and 20’ from the skimmer. The outlet is 1-1/2”. The pump is about 1’ above the water line. There are solar panels on a single-story roof with about 40’ of 2” lines running to them. I’m looking for a single speed pump to replace the existing very old 1-1/2 hp Sta-Rite pump. The county requires a multi-speed pump for any pump 1 hp or larger. Is there a ¾ hp pump available that will work? My local pool store has a Sta-Rite Supermax 3/4hp on sale.

Thanks for any help!

Most any small pump will do but to make sure, what is the model # of the pump you are looking at?

Also, why have you excluded a two speed?

The Sta-Rite pump is PHK2E6D. I was also looking at the Pentair WhisperFlo WFE-2. It looks like it delivers more gpm for the same head as the Sta-Rite. The pump is for my father's pool and he wants to keep the cost low and doesn't want to have to rewire for a 2-speed pump. The pool doesn't get used much so he only needs to run it for about 3 hours/day to keep the water clean, so electricity use is not as much an issue.

Whisperflo is a pretty expensive pump. Worth it but you can get a two speed Superflo less and I think it has a switch in the back to manually switch the speeds.

OK. Thanks. The 2-speed looks like a good deal.
