hello, i have what looks like blackish clouds in the bottom of my pool, they can be swept away easily. you can see them dissolve (or disperse) , however they settle after a few hours of inactivity in the pool. they cause the water to become cloudy, when it is normally hazy. i have an intex 22x54. help!

Hi, and welcome to the forum!!

Can you please post a set of test results, taken with a drop-based kit (no strips!) for us to look at, and can you please fill out this short form with your pool info so we can help give you better answers??

Thanks..

Algae that can be swept away is not usually (or ever as far as I know) "blackish", so I'm guessing it's something else.

If you have a skimmer, you can use a vacuum to remove whatever it is. Also, if you maintain adequate chlorine levels AND get a better cartridge for your filter, you should be able to get your pool clear, instead of hazy. If you have a sand filter, you can try a clarifier to help stick small particles together so the filter can catch them. But do NOT overdose -- clarifier products are definitely NOT in the "if some is good, more is better" category. I'll put links below for a skimmer, vacuum tools and Unicel replacement cartridges. Also, if you have a sand filter, you may want to check and make sure your filter is (a) correctly filled with (b) true filter sand.

Thank you. I have vacuumed this "dust", however by the next day or even hours later...its back. Changed the filter..does nothing. Not sure how to tell if i have a sand filter? Its just an intex 22x54 pool. the filter came with it, its just a tiny ole thing, if it would have been filled with sand, it would have to be empty of it now! I have tried everything, took water sample to pool store..waste of time. I was told to just shock the pool for about 3 days straight. I was told "we didn't test for algae." despite the fact thats what i told them i thought i had! I have been shocking, back washing, vacuuming. Ive used borax, chlorine, shock packets from walmart. i know i have low ph. Pool store told me to leave it low, because high ph makes algae worse. And now there's these little swimming bugs/tadpoles (??) in the pool!
