View Full Version : Is this Vinyl Liner Unrepairable?

I'm going to try to send pictures to poolforum@gmail.com, but haven't had much luck posting pictures to this forum.

I've resurrected an 18 x 36 T shaped in-ground pool that hadn't been opened in at least two years, possibly three or four. The remaining issue I have is a sagging liner track and two corners where the liner needs to be put back into the track. I sent these pictures (will attach) to a local pool service company and they are saying that this is unrepairable ... I'm skeptical about that. I would really appreciate some opinions on whether the liner track can be pulled back up near the coping and screwed back into the wall ... Or, just screw the track back into the wall where it's at now. I know that this liner will need to be replaced, but I feel like I can prolong that for at least a couple of seasons. Anyone have any opinions ... Pictures should be coming soon, here's a description of the problem:

The liner track (second vinyl liner) is sagging in about three or four areas. The screws that hold the track in have been pulled out. The area is about 2 1/2 feet, then there is a screw that's holding, and then it sags again with about two screws that are out.

Thanks in advance.

Actually, Jan, he should be able to if he uses picasa, flicker, photobucket or the like. Ben has said that these are acceptable as well.

I posted a few pictures to photobucket, hopefully you will be able to view these pics via the link below. There should be three photos that show the vinyl liner issues. The walls are block and there is wood (2 x 6?) under the coping. You can see from the photo that the screws that support the liner track have come out in several areas. I would like to figure out a way to re-secure the liner track to the wood under the coping. I have discussed this with three separate pool service companies and none of them are willing to tackle this job. Any advice on this? I believe that the liner is in good enough condition to last another season or two before I have to replace the entire liner. I'm trying to postpone that purchase for as long as possible.

I asked our liner expert to take a look at your pictures. (Waste aka Ted)

I'm not sure why your local pool dudes refused to touch the job. The corners look like they'll go back in easily enough. I think the trouble may be that the wood is rotting, hence the screws pulling out. (speaking of which, I pray that none fell behind the liner!!)

I notice that the one place that the screw is still holding is where the liner was patched.

IF you can do this, the biggest problem I can see is that you'd want to lower the water to do the repair and the liner may not have enough life (stretch) left in it to be able to reattach it. (you'll want to check out THIS (http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?7224-A-B-Cs-of-liner-tucks&highlight=Liner) for both the corners and the side wall liner re-installment.)

I'll be here to advise as you getg into this project. :)
