After About 20 years my pool pump has kicked the bucked. It was an A.O. Smith Model C48K2N143.
I need to order a new pump and I was wondering what would be the best replacement. My inground pool is 20" x 40"

Here is a picture of the old pump.

Can anyone recommend a supplier/brand.
Any useful tips are greatly appreciated. I wish I knew about this forum years ago.

You have a 1HP uprated Hayward Super Pump -- if it's working well for you, you probably do not need a high head (capable of high pressure) pump like the Whisperflo. So a good choice might be a new Hayward Super 2 speed 3/4HP full rate (same actual performance as a 1HP uprate.) If you run on LOW most of the time, you will get BETTER filtration AND at least a 50% reduction in electrical costs.

One possible problem is that 2 speed pumps are usually 220V only -- if yours is wired with 110, you'll either have to change the wiring, or stick to a 1-speed.

A1PoolParts has had some good prices, and has performed well for those who've ordered from them (to the best of my knowledge). This page is the one you want to look at:
http://www.a1poolparts.com/-strse-842/Hayward-Super-Pump-2-dsh-speed/Detail.bok
They only have the 1HP pump, so you'll want to plan to run on low most of the time; a 1HP pump (1.5HP uprate) is likely a bit big for your filter.

If you need the single speed, here they are:

I looked on Amazon, but prices and delivery are currently better from A1. Ask them about delivery; they *were* running a free delivery promotion in May through ? on some pumps.

Thanks for the info! I ended up getting a replacement motor and gaskets from inyopools.com

They provided instructions and it looks like something I can manage. I hope to have everything up and running by this weekend. I know I will be back here with more questions as turning my swamp/pool into something acceptable is going to be a lot of work.
