Very interested in a SWG for my pool, but have been given mixed answers to this question: can a SWG be used with an older pool with metal (I guess copper) plumbing?

Pool is gunite/plaster, about 30 years old, 25K gallons. Replastered about 5 years ago. All equipment plumbing is PVC, but plumbing to/from pool appears to be copper.

Some say, "no problem" :) others say, "the salt will eat it up" What's the real answer??

Thanks!

Well...nobody else knows the "real answer" either so I'll take a stab at it.

All SWG's require the installation after the components, as in pumps, filters, heater, etc. because the chlorine gas concentration within/after the cell is highly corrosive. So...if your return lines to the pool are copper, I wouldn't recommend a SWG.

Hope this helps, Tony

Since the condition of your copper pipes under ground is not known, it would be hard to determine if any damage may be due that, or due to high salt or chlorine levels. That's what would cause problems - high salt or chlorine levels.
Otherwise, a salt system would not cause problems.
