Need some advice!

I've been dealing with stains for the last 3 years from having to fill my pool with well water. The ascorbic acid routing removes all stains... for about 2 months. The stains are dark orange near the waterline and light orange on the rest of the pool (fiberglass). I also put about 250ml of cop-out every time I add water to the pool, which is about once every other week.

How can I prevent the stains from happening in the first place?

Thanks,
Gary

I'm not the stain/metals expert around here, but looks like the only two options you have are to either 1) use a metal sequestrant so that the metals stay in suspension in your pool water and don't drop out in the form of stains, or 2) remove the metals before the water goes into the pool by running it over a high chlorine source right before it hits a filter so that it will drop the metals out on the filter. If you'll use the google search feature linked in my sig, you should be able to find other posts that will give you more info on both methods...

How about setting up a system to direct water from the roof gutters to the pool to top the pool off? Any adverse effects from using this water? A buddy of mine has a system set up to fill his pool or garden water storage containers from his roof. Seems to work pretty good.

As long as you keep adequate amounts of chlorine in the pool and watch the pH, I don't see why you couldn't use it...

Al (Poconos) does this. He keeps a hose hooked up to his gutter.
