my above ground pool is only two years old.

i pulled the pump out of storage for the winter and it is very noisy its sounds it doesn't sound like its coming from the motor itself but some where closer to where it moves the water.

i had it running for about 3 hours last night and it didn't get hot, its just made a ton of noise, its seems able to push the water as it always did.

im think i need a new one unless i can easily troubleshoot and fix this one.

should i even bother or just get a new one? if so what should i get. i have a 12x24x52" above ground pool.

What kind of noise? Screech, like bad bearings? Or it's normal noise but just louder?

kind of but not too sqeally, more like it isn't running smoothly, almost sounds of balance, like maybe the propeller is hitting the containment wall or the bearings aren't rotating smoothly. normally the pump is pretty quiet, but when i turned it one it is just very noisy, it definitely sounds like something is wrong with it and i shouldn't run it.

i opened it up and it looks like the impeller is getting damaged from a wobbly shaft.

i guess im buying a new pump.

i have a proline cartridge filter it currently has a 75sf cartridge in it rated for 75gpm max flow and 30psi max pressure. any recommendations for a new pump? i prefer a 2 speed for vacuuming and i only have a 120v line at the pool.

I can't help you with the pump/filter match, but I'm sure that Pooldoc, Mark (mas985), or one of the other equipment folks will be by shortly and should be able to help.

What was the original pump model #? One option would be to just replace the motor if you are satisfied with the performance and the wet end is still in good condition. If not then given the size of your filter, I would go with the smallest AG two speed which is the Pentair Dynamo 3/4 HP. It will probably be less powerful than your last pump but your filter may survive longer because of it. BTW, do use a manual vacuum or automatic?

the old model number, from on the pump: sd-20-2n11cd

i can can put a larger filter in, right now i only have a 75sf one in there. that is due to be replaced this year.

i need a whole new pump, the wet end its getting damaged from the shaft wobbling around.

looking at the pentair you suggested, does it have a side discharge? all the ones i see are vertical.

I take it that your original pump does not have a pump basket? Also, does it matter if the pump has a side discharge? Isn't all the hose flex anyway?

yes it has a pump basket, and its needs a side discharge and it connects directly to the cartridge filter from the side.

the pump you suggest is only 3/4 HP which is fine, but is the high speed 3/4 or more? if the high is 3/4, what does the pump operate on low at?

right now i have a 2hp but that is way to high except for vacuum or really turning the water over for chemicals, otherwise the normal speed of 3/4 (i believe ) is plenty.

A 2hp pump is WAY too big for a 7.5K pool. I have a 27ft AG pool and I have a 1/2hp full-rated inground pump and it does just fine. In the case of pools, too big is not better because many times when you have too powerful of a pump you either blow right through the filter media or you can actually damage it. Mark will give you good advice about what a good pump would be for your pool.

yes i understand its too big, i never run it on high, except it vacuum.

my question was, for any two speed pump they only list one power rating, yet operate at two speeds, so is the rating the max speed? if so what is the low speed rating?

With a direct connect pump, you will probably want to stay with the same type/brand so that it will fit properly. It also sounds like you are worried that there will not be enough flow rate to vacuum if you downsize the pump. However, any pump should be able to run a vacuum properly and circulate the water. Those functions usual do not require a high HP pump.

This looks to be a direct replacement for the pump you have: https://www.poolparts2day.com/store.cfm?id=526&pid=20&cart

If you want to downsize by one size, then you could go with this one: https://www.poolparts2day.com/store.cfm?pid=20&id=525

I believe that you can reuse your old pump basket on either of these pumps.

i really wish i didn't need to get approval for my posts as some of my responses haven't shown up yet.

so long as it is a side discharge it should fit, the mounting holes are slotted.

i dont want to be spending more energy than i need to, so if a 3/4 will work, i'll use that instead.

I believe the replacements for what you have now are cheaper than the 3/4 HP Dynamo and I don't think the Dynamo will work in your setup. So like I said, you are better off getting the same brand pump as you have now so it will fit your filter.
