I have a 18 x 33 x 4 ft. above ground pool. I have gone through 2 Hayward Power Flow Matrix pumps in the last 4 years and am looking for a reliable replacement. I have heard some good reviews about the hayward 3/4 HP super pump. Can I use this for an above ground pool (115 V, 1 1/2" inlets)? Does 3/4 HP sound about the right size?

I am looking for any recommendations from the experts in this forum.

Thanks for your assistance

In my experience, the Hayward Super pump (not, Super II) has been VERY reliable. However, I don't think the Power Flo matrix pumps are that bad, so if I were you, I'd want to figure out what went wrong with them BEFORE getting a new pump. A common problem is inadequate electrical supply, causing them to overheat.

Can you provide all of the following info?

1. Filter make / model / size / type.
2. Explanation of how you supply electricity to the pump.
3. Wire size of direct to pump wiring (10 ga, 12ga, 14ga, etc)
4. Circuit pump is on (shared or unshared.)

Meanwhile, if you have the pool full, and no pump, you can buy plain 6% household bleach, dilute it some, and pour a gallon a day around the pool to keep the pool from getting slimed.
