I understand by reading on the forum that calcium hardness doesnt matter on an AG vinyl pool, but can really low CH cause any damage to my heater?

My levels are;

FC 2.5
CC 0.5
TC 3.0
PH Less than 7.0 (I just finished dropping my ALK and aeration is ongoing)
TA 90
CH 80
CYA 55

Thanks for youe help

no, calcium hardness (actually, the calcium saturation index of which calcium hardness is only one part) only affects how aggressive the water is to plaster surfaces. It does not predict metal corrosion. Low pH is the main water balance parameter that can cause heater damage.

When lowering TA it is best NOT to drop the pH below 7.0 for this reason and also to protect vinyl liners since you cannot know how much lower than 6.8 or 7.0 the pH actually is with the phenol red pH test used for pools.

I just checked and my Ph is back at 7.0. The aeration brings it back pretty quick. I will make no efforts to increase my CH, thanks for the information.

Evan, do you mean it does, or does NOT predict metal corrosion?

Just for my own info....

YES! If you could insert the word NOT in my post above it would be appreciated!
