help me -- the algae is dead, but my AG pool is cloudy

I opened my pool this year and had a lot of green build up, I have killed everything and the water is now balanced. The problem is that the water is still cloudy, it’s blue but cloudy. I have tried clarifiers but nothing has helped. The pool is a 26’ round 54” deep. I am using the filter that came with the pool but the pump I am using is a Hayward 1 ½ horse. Pleaser help

I'll have to get back to you, but for now:

1. Get the make / model number of BOTH your pump and filter.
2. Do NOT over use the clarifier. That can make dead algae un-filterable.
3. Get a decent OTO/phenol red testkit, ASAP, and a Taylor K2006 eventually.

I won't know, till you get back with the pump / filter info, but a common cause of the problem you describe is a BIG pump with a little filter, especially a little sand filter. This combo is common AND terrible when new, but it gets worse because the BIG pump blows the sand out of the little filter during backwash. You may have noticed this happening.

In this case, without replacing equipment, you need to do 2 things:
1. Replace the sand in the filter
2. Install a throttling valve to slow the flow down.

I've had terrible experiences recently with the Chinese made valves sold under American labels at Lowes, etc, but American industrial valves are very expensive. I found some lightweight American-made valves on Amazon, for another poster, yesterday:

The gate valve would be a better option, for this purpose.
