Hi there! I moved into a house last July with a saltwater pool, ~35000 gal, ComfortChlor saltwater generator, sand filter.

First question:
As the summer went on, the reading on the control panel for the SWG gradually went down, from a high of about 80% down to 35% or 20%. I pulled the SW cell and cleaned it in acid, but that didn't improve matters. I believe the cell is about 6 years old, so it may have reached the end of its lifespan. I intend to buy a new one soon, unless someone can point me in another direction?

2nd question:
I had the local pool store come and close the pool in the fall. I'd like to open it myself, and then close it in the fall. Any tips or step-by-step guides I can follow?

Thanks in advance. I read this forum quite a bit last summer when I was getting used to the pool and learned a lot.

Never heard of a Comfort Chlor, but 6 years is a long time for a cell.

Regarding opening . . . if you've never done it before, I'd strongly suggest hiring it done, and making a video, or notes, or both. Then you'll have the info you need to DIY.

What does the percentage represent, output? Have you verified you have sufficient salt in the pool with some test strips such as AquaCheck salt test strips? In my salt pool I have to add a bag or two every quarter due to splashout. It seems that splashing water OUT of the pool is a favorite activity among preteens.. and younger kids.. and teenagers......
