I don't know why the equipment issues always happen in March, as the water is warming up!! Anyway, my pump (which I've been using for the past 3 months or so with rusted bearings---incredibly loud, but still working enough for the few hours daily I needed to run it) finally gave up and died yesterday. So...new one to be delivered in the next 3 days, hoping I can get it installed without too much of a delay. Fortunately, I had just shocked the pool before I left the house, so hopefully won't have too much cleaning up to do once the new pump is installed!

Better now than mid-July with temps in the upper 90s!

My new pump arrived last night, and is scheduled to be replaced on Monday. I have to say...I'm pretty impressed with the service!! We ordered through Amazon, and the supplier was a company in Florida...they estimated delivery March 26-29, and I got it yesterday, the 23rd--three days after I ordered it!!

Scooped a small red-eared slider out of the pool this morning and put him back in the koi pond where he belongs....they're supposed to be very sensitive to chlorine, so the fact that it wasn't bothering him a bit tells me I'm not far away from cloudy water....can't wait to get my pump up and running again!!

What brand pump and how much? Mine just bit the dust too.

LOL, Carl---trying to keep the BIG hole in the ground from being conducive to koi!! :)

TheGoose, I misspoke when I said pump--actually what I meant was motor for the pump. I have a Hayward superpump with currently a 1 HP A.O. Smith motor. The pieces of my pump are intact, because I've learned to replace them myself one at a time, so I basically have a new pump. The motor is what burned out--spent too much time with a leaking shaft seal and the bearings rusted out. Anyway, bought the new 1 HP replacement (identical to my old one) for $180, including shipping. Ordered it the night of the 20th, arrived on the night of the 23rd. And ordered through the Amazon link, so hopefully PF will see a donation from the sale. :)

My new motor is installed, working like a champ, and so quiet that I have to go look for rippling from the returns to make sure it's still working!! :) A huge change from the jet engine-like screeching that the old pump was doing after the bearings started going out. And the best part--the pool is still blue!! Just have a bunch of junk (pollen, pine tree seeds, etc) floating on top that needs to be skimmed out. Shocked it, and once I get a chance to vac the dirt off the bottom, we're swim ready as soon as it warms up enough.

Bring on summer
