Hello,

A few weeks ago my polaris booster pump seal broke and allowed water to ruin my bearings. The motor is an ao smith and I found a thread on this site that provoked me to attempt to repair the motor rather than shelling out the money for a new one.

My original intention was just to thank those that share their experiences online as they have helped me a great deal. I am going to post my progress here with as much detail as I can so the next guy can sail through the process.

After disconnecting the front housing and removing the impeller, as well as the front bracket (you tube videos are available for this process.) I explored the pump for bolts.. I removed 3 or 4 long bolts in the back (two of them snapped at the threads) holding the pump together. There is a groove on the rear housing that i was able to use a large flathead screwdriver and hammer to remove. This exposed the rear bearing. It seemed ok but I will replace it anyways. I was a bit confused how to get the front housing off, I endes up trying the same thing ( without the groove) and the whole shaft came out.

Next step is to figure out how to get that front housing off of the front bearing, and get the bearings replaced.
