I have a 20,000 gallon inground pool with a sand filter and have had a 1 hp pac fab pump for about 12 years. My pump motor recently started making alot of racket (bad bearing) and I swapped in smaller used Hayward pump (3/4 hp) to just get me by the rest of this season.
What I really want to do is go with a larger 2 speed pump, perhaps a 1.5 hp unit to give me more capacity during vacuuming and when I get alot of leaves in the pool... then just run it on low speed the rest of the time to save money on the electric bill.
I thought it might be a good time of year to get a pump for a reduced price, perhaps an inventory reduction sale or something and install it in the spring. I installed the temporary pump with union joints and would like to setup the new one the same way so I can easily disconnect the pump and store it inside over the winter.
Any thoughts/recommendations or knowledge of a good pump available right now??
