I'm planning on buying a safety cover and am trying to figure out the best one to buy.

Our property is adjacent to a wooded area. The reason I want a safety cover is to prevent any animals or more importantly any young children from falling in and becoming trapped. We live in South Arkansas and experience mild winters.

What kind of safety would you buy in my situation? (mesh or solid, is there a brand that is recommended, etc.)

Thank You!

hey, Jen - sorry for they delay!

The major makers that I know of are Meyco, LoopLok, and Merlin - . I've also used Cover Logic (Vyn-All) covers quite a number of times and seem to be as good as the major brands.

With regard to solid or mesh: I've found that the new tighter weave mesh covers do ~ as good a job as the solid safety covers and weigh ~ 1/2 as much - making installation and removal sooo much easier.

What kind of pool deck do you have?

I've installed a few hundred safety covers and will let you know any tips on using them that I know.

Thanks so much Ted!

We have a concrete pool deck and my husband plans to try and install it himself. Any advice would be great!

Like Ted, I, too, prefer mesh. I've had a mesh cover that has lasted now 8 seasons and will go at least a ninth.

As for anchors, I presume you have to hammer-drill into the concrete and put the retractable concrete type in. There's a type for wood decks as well that I use, plus a special edge type that seems to be unique to FantaSea and Kayak pools.

But Ted's advice will be far more valuable than mine.

I have an automatic undertrack pool safety cover from Pool Covers, Inc. (http://www.poolcoversinc.com/bottomtrack.shtml) My pool is shown with the cover open

and closed

(we now have a dark blue cover instead of the tan one shown in the photo). However, this particular company appears to service only northern California (http://www.poolcoversinc.com/territory.shtml).
