Hello everyone,
New to the forum and have been reading alot and rereading. Thanks for takeing the time to help everyone.

I have an Intex style pool(Summer Escapes) 16' round. I belive 3700 gallons. Well needless to say that the so called pump that was shipped with it is useless. I purchased a sand filter and installed. 2650GPH. Between the time of getting the new filter the pool has green alge. After reading I purchased the Taylor K-2006 kit. After testing yesterday here are the readings.

2.2 FC
.6 CC
High PH had to add 3 drops of R-0005 to get to 7.4 PH
90 TA
74 CYA

I did put 1 gallon of bleach Saturday night, 1 gallon in Sunday, and 1 more on Monday. But because I did not have the Taylor kit yet I stopped. Could not tell what the FC was untill now.

What should I do first?

Thanks Kevin

Hi Kevin;

Sounds like you're on the right track. 1 gallon of plain 6% household bleach in your pool is a little more than 12 ppm chlorine. Given your high CYA level, you'll probably need to think more in terms of a 1.5 gallons per dose, with lower doses if you are able to hold your chlorine level. Use my Best Guess chart (linked in my sig) to determine the correct chlorine level, based on your CYA level.

And, add some acid, to get your pH into the 7.2 - 7.8 range.

Other than that, sounds like you've got the basic idea.

Also, use the 10ml water sample instead of the 25ml sample to make your testing reagents last longer. Welcome to the Pool Forum!
