We have had our pool for about 4 years now. Pool is 24 foot above ground. First three years we never had a problem . Would test the water once in the beginning of the season and was always good. This year we put a clorinator on thinking it would be easier. When we first put in the clorinator the chlorine level was too high 5-8 so we backed off . Now the tablets had dissolved faster than we thought they would of and now the water is cloudy. Got the water tested and the results said that fc 1.5, tc 1.5, cc 0 , ph 7.8 , alkalinity 95, ca 55. Today we put a gallon and a half of 6% bleach in the pool. What now??? Do we need to add more bleach?? Our test kit doesn't go up that high. Talor kit that we need that lesli pools sells should be what number??
The first three years we kept tri tabs in the skimmer and two floaties. We normally ran the filter for about three hours.we have a 200 pound sand filter one and a half horse power motor.

Hi, and wlcome to the forum!!

Sounds like you're having a problem that is common to those using chlorine feeders, and that is not realizing that as your CYA level goes up from the trichlr tabs, so must your baseline chlorine levels. With a CYA of 55, your chlorine should never go below 5 ppm. Now that it has, you likely have an algae bloom trying to start. You need to shock the pool by raising your chlorine to 20 ppm , and hold it there until the pool clears. Keep the pump and filter running 24/7, cleaning the filter as the pressure indicates. Once the pool clears, you can let the chlorine drift back down to the 5-10 ppm range, but never below 5 .
