We are building a new IG pool and the applied the Kool Deck this week( I think is the term, it was colored textured concrete) and it rained that night. It washed pigment out of areas and looks spotted and pretty bad. I am meeting with contractor tomorrow and we are discussing options. I would love some input from you all here...can we fix it sealer/ color(stain), can they put very thin on top? (it is ~3 days old) If I spray the deck off with water it looks 95% better but worry about long term durability of the "fixes".

That is strange that it looks spotty, I am contractor myself and if this were my job i would re-Kool deck the job. I know its something that wasn't my fault or owners but if i were you i would maybe agree to pay 1/4 of what u originally paid to help the contractor in one way or another.

If you re-deck the surface is the old deck removed? (the coping, drains etc. are flush so r no room for additional height. I also found out my wife sprayed the deck down with fresh water after work the night the deck was done. She had seen me do that to all the unfinished concrete (sub-deck and shell) and assumed it was OK. I did research last night on web and now I think maybe we washed pigment out. :( I guess I am at least some at fault, the contractor said no walking on it until next day but never said anyhting about water.

Well if it were to be rekool decked wherever u say there is no more height there actually is. The way to fix that is to use a grinder and grind down the deck maybe 1/2 or less due to the fact that Kool deck is a very thin textured finish. And as far as the water used then i would say that is a homeowner fault because technically speaking if u say no stepping on until tomorrow it means nothing is to go onto the surface. With that statement being said i don't think one needs to be so specific about what you can and can't put on the deck ex: pool furniture. Hope this helps

The deck contractor came out and said the spots are mostly drying at different rates, and will continue to improve. He said me spraying water on it that night had no effect. He said 1-3 hours after he does deck it is fine to get wet. Here in FLA is rains alot in the summer ans he says he has seen then get water damage and this is not that. What he said seems to be holding true...getting better slowly so I am going to wait until pool is totally done and they acid wash it and look at results. If at that time I will talk to pool GC and maybe get him to stain it at that time if the coloring still bothers me.

I'm not familiar with real name-brand kool-deck, but most of what is applied in our area is acrylic. My acrylic is about 2 years old, and even now, If I leave something wet on the decking overnight (like a swim mask), it will lighten the color of the acrylic. After a few hours in the sun, the color returns to normal and you can't even see the spot anymore

I have kool deck and spotty at first. It does seem to dry very odd.

I dont think reapply kool deck. It can only be applied to fresh concrete within 24 hours. Check the manufactures web site.
