I can find the pump and filter I want to purchase on line much cheaper than the pool company wants to sell it to me. They will install but "scare" me with warranty issues. Wondered if this is so complicated that most on this forum (or you guys reading this moderated post) recommend not DIY (my husband works on the equipment at home all the time and is pretty knowledgeable) in favor of hiring a sub. And is there really a problem with contracting out the installation only? Thanks for your input and I look forward to my husband and I participating on this forum!

Hi jodyjim!
Installing a pump and filter is not difficult. You can do it yourself. When we first bought our pool years ago, my husband did it easily. I don't think the warranty would be affected. I don't know that for a fact, but somebody here will know that for sure. So, sit tight for a bit and some others will chime in soon!

There's only one tricky thing I know of: Many pumps, particularly IG pumps, don't come with a cord. So you have to buy a cord, it has to be code (in my town I think it must be 3' exactly) and install and wire it to the house service. If it's a plugin and 220v, you need exactly the right plug--they change shape based on rated amperage. If it's 110v, that's easier.
However, if you buy the same pump you had before, odds are it's a simple one-for-one transfer of the cable.
