Try as I might, I cannot find a hose that will not collapse at the skimmer port when vacuuming. I tried using a vacuum plate, thinking this might ease some pressure---but no luck, the hose still collapses and seriously restricts power.

What is a good hose that will not collapse?

They make angled hose plates for skimmers. That way you don't have to bend the hose to plug it into the skimmer socket. Less likely to collapse.

The hose collapses right at the coupling--the suction is just too great. I did find a "commercial grade" heavy duty hose at Doheny's pool supply. 40 footer was $65. I'll let you all know if it works once it arrives.

EUREKA!

Found a hose heavy duty enough to not collapse while vacuuming from the skimmer port. Who knows who the manufacturer is, but I got it at Doheny's Pool. It's got a 5yr warranty. Nice and stiff, no problems; no need for a vac plate or any other non-sense.
