There are several reasons why water can be green and clear, but iron is one of the most common, and will make a mess of your pool if you suddenly convert it from a soluble form, to the orange brown insoluble form! Letting the pH get high or adding a bunch of chlorine can do just that.

Go get some HEPD based metal sequestrant -- Jacks Magic Pink Stuff or Proteam Metal Magic and add it. Also, get some polyquat (see www.poolsolutions.com/gd/polyquat.html), but do NOT get the HTH brand shown. HTH has gone over to the Dark Side and is selling goop instead of good stuff. For polyquat, you MUST read the ingredients. For HEDP, you must pick the labels mentioned -- the ingredient is not listed.

+ Add both, according to instructions.
+ Do NOT shock your pool; add only SMALL doses of chlorine.
+ Keep your pH low (7.0 - 7.2)
+ Run your pump 24/7, but adjust your eyeballs so the water is aimed at the surface, not the pool floor or walls.

Do not wait to do this; do it ASAP!
