In my previous post, the Cyranic levels were off the chart because I was using tablets for years not knowing I was building CYA levels, so I drained the green pool so I can start it again fresh.

It is an in ground Marcite. Water Volume 47,872 gallons

Here are the specs of the tap water I am going to fill it with:

FAC 0
TAC 0
CH 70
CYA 20
TA 20
ph 7.4
TDS 250
Pho 2500

Leslies sold me a gallon of conditioner for the 0 Cyranic acid which I knew I would need, and they wanted me to buy Hardness, Alk Up, Pool First Aid, and Phos Free which would have cost a fortune, they said with pho that high I would have algae almost instantly. I told them I would think about it and left.

I am hoping that this time I will be able to use the liquid bleach method. My family is counting on me to get this right, I will greatly appreciate your wisdom.

Go ahead and get some chlorine so you can immediately get some chlorine in to the pool. Cal-hypo would be a good choice to start with as it will add some calcium at the same time as chlorine. Calcium hardness between 200-400 is the target. Then, you should switch to some forum of liquid chlorine. For this large of a pool, if you can find some 10 or 12.5% liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) that would be more convenient for you than bleach which is 6% sodium hypochlorite.

You will also need to raise your alk. Get some baking soda. You may be able to buy a larger bag at Walmart or Sam's. It will take approximately 6 lbs. to raise it by 10ppm. Aim for 80-120. I would NOT suggest adding a huge dose all at once or you may have cloudy water issues. Add 5 or 6 lbs. at a time. It can be added slowly to the skimmer while the pump is running.

BTW, tap water does not have CYA in it, so your reading of 20 is inaccurate. You will need about 15 lbs. to get to a reading of 40ppm.

Good luck. Repost if you have further questions.

Looks like easy water to work with.

Actually, if it were me, I'd go to Sams and get 50# of dichlor. That translates into about 75 ppm of chlorine for your pool . . . and about 60 ppm of stabilizer. That may be higher than you want to go, but the dichlor is easy to use during start up, and won't dissipate instantly like bleach will in a clear water unstabilized pool.

If you are going to use bleach, 60ppm of CYA is a good level to work with. Keep in mind that, at 1 ppm per day, you'll need around 9 gallons of 6% bleach per week for that big pool.

You may want to look at other options. If you have a sand or DE filter, you can use cal hypo without having uncontrolled TA & CH rise . . . if you do it the way I tell you. Or you may want to install a salt system, if your pool components are compatible and if it fits your budget.
