I have an above ground pool and would like to hard plumb it. I went out and purchased the 2 pentair diverter valves because of how difficult the standard ball valve was to turn. However it is pretty heavy and I really wanted to be able to mount it close to the return and the skimmer and then have unions there and then pvc and another union at the pump and one at the filter. Essentially I just wanted to make it removable to store for the winter. If I leave the valve on and remove everything else I think it would put too much weight on the skimmer and return after I drain the pool and remove the other pipe. Any suggestions on what I should do.

You might want to look at these valves (Amazon):
1.5" slice valve (http://www.amazon.com/1-5-inch-Slice-Valve/dp/B002ZIZGR2/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1309289616&sr=8-13)
2" valve (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YLK6NM?ie=UTF8&tag=poolbooks&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B004YLK6NM)
They are very light, and are themselves a sort of union.

They are probably available locally via a pool store. If you order them via Amazon, watch the shipping. They are sold by 3rd party sellers.

Welcome to the Forum!

Any chance you could send a pic of your set up to the admin? There might be easier ways to do this. :)
