Hello,
new to this site and new to being a pool owner. i have a 12' round by 36" deep above ground pool and we decided to go with a saltwater system. my water is clear but i have a red dust on the bottom of the pool and the filter can't seem to keep up with it. twice in the last twenty four hours i have taken my filter out and rinsed it, and the filter is covered in a orange/red/brownish slimy substance each time. is this dead algae or something living that I need to kill? Can I add an algaecide to my saltwater pool? do not want to damage the cell in my chlorine generator. Any help that can be offered would be SO SOO appreciated! thank you!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

By chance, did you add your water from a well? Do you have rust stains in the back of your toilet tank? Sounds to me like you have iron in the water. Don't add any algaecide and also don't shock the pool until we determine if you have metals in the water.
