What pump for Hayward DE 6000 Filter?

I have a 50 year old 44,000 gallon (20x40) gunite pool freshly painted. I currently have a 2.5 horse Hayward Super II. Starting to question the quality of hayward. 3 pumps in the last 6 or 7 years.

A 2.5 is a LOT of HP for your filter.
