Been fighting algae for the past week. Shocked twice unstabilized shock, added polyquat a a week ago water clear but green on sides & bottom when brushed shocked again three days ago and added a copper based 50% algaecide, levels seem good ph about 7.6, alkalinity 90, acid a little low, chlorine has stayed above 3 the whole time. algae seems better just a little green this morning when brushing. why isn't the chlorine level coming down? ordered taylor test kit yesterday! been testing with test kit and strips to confirm and they both seem to agree. Use 3 inch pucks for chlorine

Hi and welcome to the forum! Can you give some details about your pool? We need to know what type of pool it is, the volume, what type of filter and what size the pump is. Good for you for ordering the good kit. That was a good decision! Don't put any more copper algaecide in the pool! Most people think it is chlorine that turns blonde hair green, but it is copper!!

As soon as you get your kit, we need to know the CYA reading. How high have you been taking the chlorine when you shock? What are you using to shock with?

Repost with requested info and somebody can help you go from there. BTW -- Thanks for becoming a subscriber. We really appreciate subscriptions. It helps keep this forum online which, unfortunately, doesn't happen for free!

To add to the info we need that Watermom requested, we also need to know if, when you shocked the pool, was it a one-time chlorine dose, or did you achieve a shock level and hold it there for any length of time? And do you have the trichlor pucks in the pool at this time?
