View Full Version : Zeobest Sand

I've had serious algae problems over the past three years cause by my pool cover falling in from the harsh winters. The previous two years - a little elbow grease (and lots of shock) I cleared the pool with no problem. This year I'm struggling to clear this pool.

When I backwash my sand filter, I always notice small amounts of sand (Zeobest), about a 1/4 cup sometimes less, sometimes more at the end of the backwash hose. I'm concerned that throughout the years of back washing, I've been flushing out sand and it's affecting the filter's cleaning ability this year.

I have an inground 16' x 32' (Grecian Style that's 3' - 8' deep)
Hayward 1hp Super Pump
Hayward S270T Sand Filter
The water is perfectly balanced

Any Thoughts...

Hi Mike S, and welcome to the forum!!

I use zeo in my 300# filter with a 1 hp pump, but have never seen any zeo washing out through the backwash. It will, however, blow back into the pool if not set on "rinse" mode. I wonder if maybe your pump is oversized for your filter? I'm not an equipment expert by any means, so hopefully one of them (we DO have them here, though! ) will be by shortly to comment.

By the way, thank you very much for supporting the forum with your subscription!!

I have a correction to make to my original post. I have a 300# filter. I can't clear the floating dead algae. I put FLOC in last night and I'm going to use the pump's down time to take the filter apart today. While the FLOC (hopefully) does some of the work, I'll see what's going on inside the filter. I haven't opened the filter since I installed it 5 years ago. I'll report back to the forum with my findings as (good or bad) news.
